Edmund Kao L. Ac., MAOM, Dipl. O.M. (NCCAOM) is a board-certified, licensed acupuncturist in the state of Texas. (License# AC01779)
He was originally trained as a chemical engineer, having earned his bachelor’s degree from Rice University. Following his undergraduate degree, he went to the University of Minnesota and obtained a Ph.D. in chemical engineering.
Mr. Kao worked in biotechnology as a process development engineer optimizing and scaling up the production of monoclonal antibodies in mammalian cell culture These antibodies were tested in clinical trials for the treatment of diseases including allergies, anaphylactic shock and human immunodeficiency virus.
Concurrent to his technical education, Mr. Kao also has been a serious student of the Chinese martial arts since 1991. He has over 30 years of experience in kung fu (Wu Shu, Northern Shaolin Long Fist and Southern White Crane) and 25 years experience in tai chi chuan (Yang style). Mr. Kao has been teaching martial arts since 2006.
Historically, many Chinese martial artists were skilled practitioners of Chinese medicine because they are based on many of the same theories, so that the learning of one subject enhances the understanding of the other. For this reason, and because of a desire to help people achieve health on a more personal and holistic level, Mr. Kao decided to enter the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He holds a Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In addition to being a licensed acupuncturist in the State of Texas, he is also certified as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
